William Edgar Neilson, age 84, of Cooper City, Florida, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, December 31, 2021 at Memorial Hospital West in Pembroke Pines, Florida.
William entered into this life on October 3, 1937 in Danbury, Connecticut to the late Edgar and Susan Bandzura Neilson.
William was a faithful member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church in Hollywood, Florida, and a Veteran of the U.S. Army. William retired from Texaco as a tanker truck driver, running the route from Fort Lauderdale to Key West. After his retirement, he undertook a second career at the Port of Miami to fill his time.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Elmer Neilson of Connecticut and Donald Neilson of Florida. He was also preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children Patricia Neilson in 1988 and his second wife of 30 years, Peggy Neilson in 2018.
He is survived by children: Bill (Angie) Neilson of Erin, TN, Kim Neilson of Raleigh, NC, Robby Neilson of Fort Lauderdale, FL. Step Daughters: Elizabeth Blumetti of Denver, CO, and Lydia (Steve) Stutesman Schiff of Cooper City, FL. Grandchildren: Megan (Brandon) Carr of Erin, TN, Kalyn (Hunter) Neilson of Erin, TN, Rebecca (Greg) Davis of Raleigh, NC, Jessica (Jonathan) Varillas of Raleigh, NC. Step Grandchildren: Isabella Martino and Daniel Martino of Cooper City, FL, Bridgette, Katie and Cole Farber of Denver, CO. Great Grandchildren: Coulson Carr, Maxton Carr, Dani Varillas, Brayden Davis and William Hudock Lair – (namesake to William and his grandmother). Step Great Grandchildren: Orlando and Aiden Farber.
Services are scheduled for Friday, March 25, 2022: The funeral mass is scheduled for 11:00 am at St. Bernadette Catholic Church in Hollywood, Florida. Internment is scheduled for 2:30 pm at the South Florida National Cemetery in Lake Worth, Florida with full military honors.
