William Barnes

September 9, 1936 — February 2, 2016

William Francis Barnes, 79 formerly of Erin, TN, passed away on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 in Jefferson City, MO.
William entered this life on September 9, 1936 in St Louis, MO, son of the late Lawrence Martin Barnes, Sr. and Annie Mathis. William proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He worked as a welder at Shipper’s Car Line in E. St. Louis, IL and was an active member of United Steelworkers of America, AFL-CIO. He also served as their local president before he retired. He was a loving father and grandfather. He enjoyed coon hunting, fishing, long rides in the country, and telling stories.
Although he was a long time believer in Christ, he had been attending Bible Baptist Church in Erin, TN where he was recently baptized.
In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by his brother
Lawrence Martin Barnes, Jr.
Survivors include his brother Carlos Odom, of Dickson, two sons, William Kelvin Barnes and Troy Barnes, both of Granite City, IL, a daughter, Lori Sharp (Lloyd) of Mt. Juliet, TN, grandchildren Lindsey Sharp Denney (Tim) of Johnson City, TN, Rebecca Barnes of Granite City, IL, and Luke Sharp of Mt. Juliet, TN., great grandchildren, Charlee Ann Denney and Mary Jean Denney of Johnson City, numerous nieces and nephews from the Stewart and Houston County areas. He is also survived by an adopted granddaughter Ashley Gaing of Jefferson City, MO and her three children; Anastasia and
Dominic Poirrier, and Kendal Gaing.
The Barnes family will receive friends on Friday, February 5, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the chapel of Nave Funeral Home. A private Graveside Service will be held at a later date at Gray Barnes Cemetery.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
