William Atkinson

August 2, 1950 — February 25, 2008

William Hunter Atkinson, 57, Clarksville, died Monday, February 25, 2008, at Gateway Medical Center. The funeral will be held at 12 Noon Friday at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. David Forney officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. til Service Friday. McReynolds-Nave & Larson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Atkinson was born August 5, 1950 the son of Dr. Edward Rudolph and Anna Kathryn Wall Atkinson. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, a Professor at Hopkinsville Community College, a member of First Presbyterian Church and a Kentucky Colonel. Mr. Atkinson was a professor of biology at Hopkinsville Community College's Fort Campbell Branch. His undergraduate degree was from Rhodes College, and his graduate degrees were from Austin Peay State University and the University of South Alabama at Mobile. His hobbies included reading, hiking, and listening to classical music. Recently he had enjoyed learning make and play the violin. Mr. Atkinson was preceded in death by his father. He is survived by his mother, Anna Kathryn Atkinson, Clarksville, one brother, Edward R. Atkinson Jr., Oak Ridge, TN and one sister, Betty Gibson, Swannanoa, N.C. Mr. Atkinson is also survived by nieces, Kathryn Summers and Ann Koonce and their families of Durham and Chapel Hill,N. C.
