Wilburn Obie Childress, age 72, of Cunningham, TN, passed away on Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at Gateway Medical Center.
A celebration of his life will be held at 12 noon Friday, August 14, 2015 at Christ The Healer Church in Clarksville. Bishop Calvin Lockett will officiate. Wilburn will be laid to rest at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West, Hopkinsville, Kentucky. Full Military Honors will be rendered.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at McReynolds-Nave & Larson Funeral Home and 11 a.m. until the hour of service Friday at the church.
Wilburn was born March 19, 1943 in Mounds, Illinois, son of the late Issac and Birdie Mae Mayes Childress. Will was a proud retiree of the U.S. Army. Following his faithful service to country, he went on to retire from Civil Service at Fort Campbell. Will was a charter member of Christ The Healer Church where he served as an Usher. He was always known for giving encouragement to all and for his praise for the Lord.
In addition to his parents, Will was preceded in death by brothers, Issac, John, and Frank, and special cousin, Bootsie Williams.
Will is remembered by his devoted wife of forty years, Catherine George Childress; children, Earl LeRoy Harrison, Etoile Harrison, Tina Drennen, Penelope Harrison, Michol Childress, and Machel Martinez; his greatest joy were his grandchildren, Catherine Hack, Rachel Teet, Thomas Harrison, Jacquelin Harrison Stanley, and Michael Harrison-Cain; siblings, Mildred Gadson, Melvin Childress, Francis Cottledge, and James Childress; and special cousin, Samuel Williams.
