Walter Glenn Vann, 90, of Erin, Tennessee, received the heavenly call for a promotion and peacefully departed on Sunday, January 26, 2025, from the home of his daughter, Mary Selph. His promotion takes him to a wonderful place where his garden is always bountiful, laughter and love guaranteed, and sweet sounds from his mandolin glide on the breeze.
Glenn was born March 7, 1934, and farmed most of his life raising tobacco and harvesting hay. He also worked at Consolidated Aluminum and as a truck driver for Taylor Industries. In 1969, using his ingenuity and determination to provide for his family, he constructed a home on his farm on Salmon Branch Rd where he lived until his death. In his later years, he enjoyed sitting on his front porch, reading the Bible, mowing his yard, playing music and the companionship of his beloved dog, Baby.
Glenn was preceded in death by the love of his life for 51 years, Stella Annette Vann (Knight), parents, Alonzo Marshall and Clara Christine Vann, and siblings Jim Vann, Jerry Vann, Doris Mathis, and Mildred Forsee. He is survived by his children Carlton Vann (Debbie), Eugene Vann (Libby), Glenda Parker (Joel), Billy Vann, Marie Manley, Mary Jewell Selph (Maynard), 15 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, and siblings Patricia Smith (Jerry) and Marshall Vann (Claire).
Glenn was known for his quiet strength, resilience, perseverance, hard work, and the legacy of family he and Anne built together. He embodied the idea that obstacles in the path are not obstacles, they ARE the path. We remember him in our own unique way and these memories are an accumulation of his life story. Available to read any moment we choose; Glenn’s book is always with us when we open our memories of him.
