In Memory of Thomas F. Harmon
Thomas F. Harmon, age 71 of Cadiz, Kentucky passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, May 16, 2018. Tom was the husband of Janet Barksdale Harmon, formerly of Salem, Illinois.
Tom was born November 21, 1946 in Eldorado, Illinois to Thomas Winfred (Win) Harmon and Anna Kathryn (Kay) Taylor. He graduated Carmi High School in 1964, continuing onward to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign as USMC ROTC. Tom graduated in 1968 with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and married Janet on June 9, 1968 at the Pleasant Grove Methodist Church in Marion County, Illinois.
Tom accepted a position with General Electric out of undergraduate but was promptly drafted into the US Army during Vietnam. Following his service, Tom worked for General Electric for 10 years before returning to southern Illinois. Tom was the third generation to own Taylor Sawmill in Enfield, Illinois. He retired and closed the sawmill in 2010 after 32 years running the operations.
Tom is survived by his wife of 50 years, Janet and his children: Jessica (Harmon) and Douglas Byerly and their children, Kathryn and Harmon of Mason, Ohio; Jacqueline Harmon and fiancée Aaron Amirault and his son, James, of Mason, Ohio; Matthew and Lisa (Boozer) Harmon and their children, Benjamin Campbell, Mathew and Brandtley Harmon, of Tampa, Florida; and one brother, Martin D. Harmon of Xenia, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his mother, Kay Preston; his father; his step father, Jack Preston of Carmi, Illinois; and Heather Campbell of Fayetteville, North Carolina.
A visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at McReynolds Nave & Larson, 1209 Madison St., Clarksville, Tennessee. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2-4 p.m. Saturday, May 26, 2018 at Pheasant Hollow Winery, 14931 IL-37, Whittington, Illinois. Condolences can be sent to 87 Amy Drive, Cadiz, Kentucky 42211.
