Sterling Ward Akins, age 97 of Dover, TN passed away Friday, October 29, 2021 at Tennessee State Veteran’s Home.

Sterling entered this life on May 27, 1924 in Glens Falls, NY to the late Ward and Alice Norton Akins. He was a Veteran of The United States Army. Throughout the years, Sterling worked as a Machinist, Engineer, Draftsman, Quality Control for Albany International, and a Hunting and Fishing guide in the Adirondack Mountains. He enjoyed flying planes, swimming, skiing, golfing, hunting, and fishing. Sterling was a member of the American Legion. He was a longtime contributor to Shriners, St. Jude, American Legion, and the Alzheimer’s Association. He was a kind and thoughtful man who will be missed by many.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth Baker Akins.
Survivors include his wife, Eleanor Newman: children, Boyd (Nanette) Akins, Todd (Crystal) Akins, Denise (Craig) Hanshett, and Flint Akins; adopted daughters, Kathy (Dick) Zack, and Cheryl Akins; stepchildren, Carol Newman, Charles (Deborah) Newman, and Michael Newman; grandchildren, Logan, Derrick, C.T., Travis, Nicole, Bridgette, and Gary; step-grandchildren, Christopher, Ryan, Matthew, Jason, Michelle, Ethan, and A.J.
