SSG (Ret) Jack A. Marsh, a proud Vietnam Veteran and recipient of several prestigious military awards, passed away peacefully at the Tennessee State Veterans Home on February 15, 2024. He was surrounded by his loving family during his final moments. Jack was born on June 9, 1937, in Swainsboro, Georgia.
Jack's dedication to service began in 1954 when he entered into active duty with the US Army. Throughout his military career, he demonstrated exceptional commitment and received numerous accolades for his outstanding performance. These included the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal with five clusters, and the Army Commendation Medal with the 1st Oak Leaf Cluster. After faithfully serving his country, Jack retired honorably in 1974 with the rank of Staff Sergeant. Following his retirement from the military, Jack embarked on a new chapter in his professional life, working for the Dept. of Defense for an impressive 23 years. Additionally, Jack was a member of Bethel Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
Outside of his professional endeavors, Jack cherished spending time with his family. He deeply loved and cared for his wife Rosa Maria Hinz Marsh, whom he wed while serving in Germany in December of 1958, sons Jack A. Marsh Jr., Johnny R. Marsh, Anthony Marsh (deceased), and Gary Marsh; daughters Teresa Spivey and Vicki Furmanek, as well as his 13 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren. Jack's family meant everything to him, and he leaves behind a legacy of love and strong familial bonds. In addition to his son Anthony, Jack is preceded in death by his parents, Allen Forrest Marsh and Otha Lee Walker Marsh; brother, Ray Marsh and sister, Shirley Scarboro.
To celebrate Jack's life and honor his memory, visitation will be held at McReynolds-Nave & Larson Funeral Home in Clarksville, Tennessee on Wednesday, February 21st from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM. The Celebration of Life will be held at the same location beginning at 12:00 PM. Rev. Stewart Salyer will officiate. Burial with US Army Honors will follow at Bethel Memorial Cemetery.
In this time of mourning, we reflect upon Jack's remarkable life filled with bravery and dedication to serving both his country and his loved ones. His contributions will be remembered fondly, and his spirit will live on in the hearts of all those who had the privilege to know him. May they find solace in the precious memories they shared with him and may Jack rest in eternal peace.
