SSG (Ret) James Franklin Cogar, age 80, passed away on Tuesday, February 2, 2021.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the chapel of McReynolds-Nave & Larson Funeral Home. He will be laid to rest with US Army honors at Greenwood Cemetery.
James' family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until the hour of service at the funeral home.
He entered into this life on January 13, 1941 in West Virginia, son of Shirley Cogar and Mabel Norman Cogar. James began his military career as a National Guardsman and transitioned into active duty status with the US Army, eventually retiring after a 22 year career. He had bravely served in Vietnam and was the recipient of numerous awards including the Bronze Star and several overseas campaign ribbons. Following his military career, James enjoyed working for Progressive Directions for 17 years. In his later years, he enjoyed watching classic Westerns and sports, fishing, and especially enjoyed time with grandkids. He was preceded in death by his grand daughter, Kimberly LaDean Smith.
Survivors include his loving wife, LaDean Cogar; children, James Dean Cogar (Petra), Kimberly Sue Smith (Jeral), and Janice Shantel Bowen (Wade); grandchildren, Cameron, Zachary, Eliza, and Cheyanne, six great grandchildren; and several siblings.
