Spencer Mckay Mortensen, 18, Fort Campbell, passed away from a lifelong illness, into the loving arms of his Savior, Jesus Christ, on November 9, 2009 while stationed at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. He was born in Provo, Utah July 24, 1991 to Spencer Ray and Annette Barton Mortensen where his father, Spencer, was attending BYU. With his family, McKay then lived in Pendleton, SC, Raleigh, NC, Mercerville, NJ, Westfield, IN, Greensboro, NC and lastly in Wentzville, MO where he completed high school. McKay had a great love for his country and desire to help in the cause of freedom. He joined the Army and began his military service at Fort Knox, KY. He was a member of Bravo Troop, 1-33 Calvary, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (The Screaming Eagles), Fort Campbell, KY. McKay excelled in his training, was an expert marksman and was known for his ability, enthusiasm and love for the military. We remember him with love: His handsome face, his irresistible, contagious smile, his love for children, his willingness and sincere desire to play with his younger cousins, his helpfulness, his kind interaction with people and animals, his enjoyment of certain video games, his willingness to express love to others, his bravery, and the way he sang the hymns in church with great gusto when he was young. The day he was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, he sounded like an angel as he sang "I Lived in Heaven"with his sister Becky. We miss him but are confident he is now with others that love him, that he will continue to learn and grow, and that we will be with him again when the time is right. Spencer McKay Mortensen is survived by his loving parents; his sisters: Becky Ann Mortensen and Megan Marie Mortensen; his Grandparents: Taylor and Darlene Minard Mortensen and Ed and Ann Allen Barton; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
