Antonio Javier Syrakos, age 22, of Lynn, died Thursday, January 10, 2013 at Ft. Campbell, Kentucky, unexpectedly. He was the son of Paul and Doris (Canata) Syrakos of Lynn. Born in Paraguay, Antonio was adopted by Paul and Doris when he was three years old. He was raised in Lynn and attended Shoemaker School, Pickering Junior High School, and graduated from Lynn Classical High School, class of 2009. He was involved in the Lynn Youth Soccer Program and was a great lover of music. He especially loved rap music and recorded several CDs in Boston. He enjoyed snowboarding and hiking, having recently hiked to the summit of Mt. Washington and has hiked extensively in the Lynn Woods. His goal was to completely hike the Appalachian Mountains. He was also fond of BMX bike riding.
Antonio enlisted in the United States Army and served in Afghanistan. He was a member of Whiskey Company and was awarded several medals. Besides his parents, Paul and Doris, a 2nd grade teacher at the Cobbett School in Lynn, Antonio is survived by his sister, Katrina Syrakos, a student at Lynn Classical High School and his beloved husky dog, Lyrik. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles and cousins. Antonio was the grandson of the late Josephine and Edward Canata, and Antonio and Angelina Syrakos.
His funeral will be held from the Solimine, Landergan & Richardson Funeral Home, 426 Broadway (Rt129) Lynn, Massachusetts on Friday at 9:30AM, followed by a funeral service in St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, Peabody at 11AM. Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours will be Thursday from 5-8PM.
