Slayden Smith born on Spring Creek, Humphrey’s Co. on March 9,1932 to Thomas L. (“Shorty”) and Elsie Ray (Parker) Smith, passed away on December 22, 2022 at Walking Horse Meadows in Clarksville, TN. For the past twelve years he resided with his son, David Smith, David’s wife, Paige, and his only grandchild, Brendan Smith, of Clarksville. He is survived by his youngest sister, Gale Kuykendall, of Nashville. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joan Smith (McCarty) of Erin, and siblings Syble Patterson, Avis Browning, TL (“Joker”) Smith, Jr., and Roland Smith. A son of Tennessee Ridge, Slayden left his TN home to join the Navy during the Korean War. After his military service, he remained there in CA to help build many of the freeways in Southern California as a carpenter and a general foreman. For many summers he faithfully drove his wife and son on the iconic Route 66 to visit family in Tennessee. He loved working with his hands and always had a project. A loving and devoted son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather; he will be missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at 11:00 am at the chapel of Nave Funeral Home in Erin, TN with Bro. David Smith and Chaplain (MAJ-RET) Ron Eastes officiating. Burial will follow in Richlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 am until the hour of service Wednesday morning. Family and Friends will serve as pallbearers.
