1st Sergeant (R) Peter James Kinzer, age 91 of Clarksville, TN passed away on Friday, April 29, 2016 at home surrounded by his family. He was born July 25, 1924 in Cold Spring, Minnesota.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Deacon Dominick Azzara officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens with Full Military Honors. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Monday with a Prayer Vigil at 7 p.m. at McReynolds-Nave & Larson Funeral Home.
He had a 22 year career with the U.S. Army and served during WWII with the 11th Airborne division, Korean War with the 8th Infantry Division and Viet Nam War with 101st Airborne division. He received the Bronze Star for valor and several other awards and decorations during his military career.
Life after his Military career included farming and working as a Licensed Electrician. Peter's interest included his love of animals, especially horses. An avid reader of Science, and space enthusiast, but was most known as a good Samaritan and humanitarian.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years Pauline Buttrum Kinzer. He is survived by his 4 children, Mary Lou Atkins of Atlanta, GA, Ruth Ann Greenup of Clarksville, TN, James Anthony Kinzer (Deya) of Clarksville, TN and Sharon Elizabeth Suiter (Shawn) of Indian Mound, TN.
He is also survived by 9 grandchildren. Elizabeth Bradshaw, Christina DeVaughn, Christopher Kinzer, Rebecca Mayfield, Joshua Kinzer, James Michael Greenup, Lauren Delaney, Joseph Kinzer and Rachel Suiter and 13 great grandchildren. He is survived by 3 sisters Helen Hoekstra and Margaret Buckus of Minnesota and Betty Walsh of Ohio.
