SGT Joseph P. Winters, U.S. Army

SGT Joseph Winters, stationed at Ft. Campbell, Ky., died April 30. He was 27. Born in Springfield to Randall and Marilyn (Blanc), he lived in Oregon as a child, settling in Corbett in 1998. He graduated from Corbett H.S. ('03). In May 2006, he enlisted in the Army. He served two tours in Iraq and was with the GSC, GSB, 5th SFG, UAV Platoon. In May 2011, he married Desiree Gilmore. He resided in Clarksville, Tenn. until his death. SGT Winters loved sports, shooting, golf and computers. He was generous, caring and had a "can do" attitude. He was a good friend, awesome brother and amazing son and he loved his family dearly. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. SGT Winters is survived by wife, Desiree; stepchildren, Westin and Darla; parents, Randall and Marilyn; sister, Erin (Bryce) Bumgarner; and brother, James; nephew, Bodin; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Funeral, 11 a.m. Friday, May 11 at St. Henry Catholic Church in Gresham. Visitation, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Thursday, May 10 with the Recitation of the Rosary, 7 p.m. at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home. Interment with Military Honors at Willamette National Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, a veteran's charity of your choice or to the Corbett Booster Club/Corbett Youth Sports.
