SGM (Ret) Laymon Dean Auvenshine, age 78, passed away on Tuesday, August 24, 2021.
The Auvenshine family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. The Celebration of Life will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, August 27, 2021 at First Baptist Church of St. Bethlehem with the Rev. Jeff Burris officiating. Masks are required to attend the visitation and service, per the family's request. Following the service, SGM (R) Auvenshine will be laid to rest at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West. Full US Army Honors will be rendered.
Dean was born in Lansing, Michigan on February 21, 1943, to parents Raymond and Iva Nell Roberts Auvenshine. He retired from Open Arms Care in Nashville, TN in 2005 and from John Henry Company, Lansing, MI in 2000. He retired at the rank of Sergeant Major after 24 years from the US Army Reserves. Some of the leisure activities Dean enjoyed were golf and travel. He positively enjoyed teaching and used his talent to educate and engage his Senior Adults Sunday School Class at St. Bethlehem Baptist Church for the past 20 years.
Survivors include his loving wife of 48 years, Diana Crowe Auvenshine; children, Mitchell Auvenshine (Sunny) and Kristina Auvenshine; brother, Raymond H. Auvenshine; and his two grandchildren, Ellie Joy Auvenshine and Aiden Dean Auvenshine.
Pallbearers will be David Greer, Mike Collins, Jimmy Harris, Carl Jenkins, Mike Williams, Jerry Higgins, Benjamin Crawley and Jeramiah Crawley
