SGM (Ret) Charles R. Ford

SGM (Ret) Charles Richard Ford, 61, of Cumberland Furnace, passed away Monday, June 4, 2012 at Creekside Assisted Living.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, June 7, 2012 at the chapel of McReynolds-Nave & Larson Funeral Home with Bros. Tom Lynch and Wayne Shelby officiating. Military honors will be rendered. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. The remains are to be cremated and interred at Lee's Chapel Church of Christ Cemetery.
Charles was born November 22, 1951 in Factoryville, Pennsylvania, son of Cecil Richard Ford and Isadore Weed Ford. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Place.
Prior to his enlistment Charles reached the status of Eagle Scout. Charles had a prestigious military career in the U.S. Army, attaining the rank of Sergeant Major at 17 years of service. He was a Veteran and a POW of the Vietnam Conflict and the recipient of two Purple Hearts. While active duty he taught ROTC at Austin Peay State University and following retirement he taught High School JROTC for 14 years. Charles was a member of Lee's Chapel Church of Christ.
Survivors include his loving wife, Helen Groves Ford of Cumberland Furnace; his sons, Robby Christy and his wife Alison of Clarksville and Christoper Richard Ford of Jensen Beach, FL; his daughters, Alicia Mehdaoui and her husband Yassine of Port St. Lucie, FL, Sondy Mae Ford of Dickson, TN, and Tiffany Rose Ford of Fairview, TN; brother Fred Ford of Massachusetts; sister Marie Maiden of New York; and ten grandchildren.
