Franklin Roosevelt once said, “Those who have long enjoyed such privileges as we enjoy, forget in time that men have died to win them.” Just such a man, who did his duty without complaint, and made this world a better place, has gone on to a better place of his own.
SFC (Ret) Ronald Eugene McFadden, age 68, of Clarksville, died on Wednesday, August 29, 2018 from illness caused by exposure to Agent Orange while doing his duty in Vietnam.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, September 8, 2018 at the chapel of McReynolds-Nave & Larson Funeral Home with full Military Honors.
The McFadden family will receive friends Saturday from 1 p.m. until the hour of service at the funeral home.
Ronald entered into this life on August 25, 1950, in Dyersburg, TN, to the late Eugene and Mary King McFadden. In 1967 Ronald proudly entered the United States Army. He spent twenty one years in the service before retiring. During his time of service with the 160th Night Stalkers, he was a motor transport operator, air craft engine mechanic, air craft power plant repairman, and an aircraft components supervisor. He was awarded numerous medals and badges, including the Army Commendation Medal, Recruiter Badge with two sapphire stars, Gold Recruiter Badge, Recruiter Badge with 3/3 gold stars, Meritorious Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two Campaign Stars, NCO Professional Development Ribbon, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal (6th), Army Service Ribbon, and Overseas Service Ribbon. Upon retirement in 1988, Ronald went on to work for Quebecor World Color, and retired after twenty years of employment. Ronald enjoyed hunting with both his gun and bow. He also enjoyed bow fishing, traditional fishing, falling off his brother’s boat, woodworking, home renovations, and acrylic pen making. Never one to complain about any hardships, he crossed over with the characteristic courage and grit that marked him.
Survivors include his loving wife of forty-seven years, Janice Jones McFadden; son, Sean Ron (Lacy) McFadden; daughter, Amanda Dyan McFadden; granddaughter, Lylah Mae McFadden; siblings, Pamela (Bobby) Hall, Sandy (Zain) Kirby, Dianne (Neil) Brown, Kenneth (Cindy) McFadden, and a host of nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in Ronald’s name be made to the American Heart Association, the Diabetes Foundation, or a charity of one's choice.
