Sergeant First Class (Ret) James “Jim” Edward Haras, age 76, of Clarksville, TN died peacefully on August 23rd, 2017. Jim was born in Maynard, MA in 1941, and led a loved and fulfilling life serving in the US Army. He was a small business owner, graduate of APSU, CB radio operator under the handle “Blue Glacier”, proud member of the Disabled American Veteran Association Chapter #45, family chef, avid gardener, and loving husband, dad, and grandfather to a large and extended family. During this time, he touched countless lives with his genial spirit, perpetual smile, and big heart.
Jim will always be remembered for his generosity and kindness extended to everyone he met. During his service years, he and Myong always welcomed young soldiers into their home for holiday dinners with their family so they would not be alone. Post retirement, he became an active member of the Disabled American Veteran Association where he assisted countless veterans attain their benefits and answer various questions. Along with helping other soldiers, Jim could always find a friend no matter where he would go. His always enjoyable and spirited conversations will be missed by many.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Myong; his children, Diane, Judy, Davis, and Jimmy; his grandchildren, Stephanie, Jenni, Sarah, Amy, Madyson, Makayla, and Jäger; his great-grandchildren, John-Ryan and Ryder, and Haleigh; and his chihuahuas, Nacho, Baby, and Lacy.
In the spirit of Jim and his generosity, the family respectfully requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the Disabled American Veteran Association Chapter #45 or the American Diabetes Association.
