SFC (Ret) Bob Hill, 94, of Clarksville, passed away on Thursday, September 8. 2016 at home surrounded by his family.
He was born September 5, 1922 in Virginia and was raised in Eugene, Oregon. He attended The University of Oregon where he completed his Business Administration degree in three years.
A celebration of his life will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, September 10, 2016 at McReynolds-Nave & Larson Chapel.
Visitation will be Friday from 4-8 p.m. with a Masonic service at 8 p.m. and from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of service Saturday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery with Full Military Honors. Military will serve as pallbearers.
He had a 28 year career with the U.S. Army and served during WWII, both in Europe and the Far East, Korea, and two tours in Vietnam. He served with the 11th Airborne, 82nd Airborne, and the 101st Airborne Divisions. He was a Jump Master and retired as a member of the 5th Special Forces. During his military career, he was a POW and he received 4 Purple Hearts, 2 Bronze Stars and 2 Army Accommodation Medals along with several other awards and decorations during his career.
After retiring from the military, he worked for the City of Clarksville for 20 years. He was a Mason for 50 years at Queen City Masonic Lodge #761 in Clarksville, TN. He was a member of Little West Fork Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. His interests included being an amateur radio operator and a motorcycle enthusiast. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Frances Knight Hill, and son, Mark Hill.
He is survived by his sons, Mike "Bubba" (Donna) Hill and Cris "B.C." (Lacey) Hill, both of Clarksville, TN. He is also survived by two granddaughters, Sandy (Tim) Cate of West Palm Beach, FL and Rebecca Jacks of Clarksville, TN. Three grandsons, Dominic Hill, Braden and Parker Newton, of Clarksville, TN and one great-granddaughter, Cadie Cate of West Palm Beach, FL.
In lieu of flowers, he requested that any memorial contributions be sent to The Shriners Hospital for Children, St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, or the Vanderbilt Children's Hospital.
He was dearly loved in life and will be greatly missed, until we are together again.
