James Edward "Jim" Powell, age 70, passed away on Saturday, March 28, 2020.
A Family Celebration of Life with Army Honors will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 3, 2020 at the chapel of McReynolds-Nave & Larson Funeral Home. An intimate gathering of his family and closest friends will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday and 10 a.m. until the hour of service at the funeral home. Jim will be laid to rest at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West.
Jim entered into this life on July 15, 1949 in Seneca, South Carolina to parents Thomas Ray Powell and Mary Lavinia Holden Powell. Following high school and at the height of Vietnam, Jim bravely entered into active duty service with the US Army and served his country until his retirement from service in 1989. Additionally, Jim went on to work as a contractor for DynCorp and Lockheed supporting 160th Night Stalkers Operations at Ft. Campbell. A South Carolina native, Jim was an avid fan of his hometown Clemson Tigers athletics, especially football. He also was an electronics and computer hobbyist, although his favorite thing to do in his spare time was spending time with his family, all of whom he was very proud.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Lori Moore Powell, his two children, Ryan Powell (Maddie Anderson) and Nicole Powell, and sister-in-law, Angie Moore.
