Sgt. 1st Class Jeffrey Keith Gilbreath, 42 of Cumberland Furnace, Tennessee, passed away suddenly on Thursday, May 31, 2012, in Leesville, La.
Born on June 19, 1969 in Washington, DC, he was the son of Beverly Elliott Gilbreath Shrewsbury of Glen Daniel and the late Elbert Leroy Gilbreath Jr., and was the step son of Sidney Shrewsbury of Glen Daniel.
Jeff was a US Army Active Duty Soldier stationed in Fort Polk, La. He enlisted in the army in June 1992, having been stationed in Germany, Fort Sill in Oklahoma, Fort Campbell in Kentucky, and presently in Fort Polk, La. He had tours of duty in Bosnia, with two tours in Iraq. Jeff was planning his retirement with 20 years of service in November 2012. Jeff was a graduate of Shady Spring High School in 1988.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Dallas “Bud” Elliott, maternal grandmother, Mattie Elliott, and by paternal grandparents Elbert Leroy Gilbreath Sr. and Hazel Worley Gilbreath.
Those survivors left to cherish his memory other than his mother and step father, include his wife Melissa Gilbreath; daughters Hayden Gabrielle Gilbreath, Carson Elizabeth Floyd, and Emma Reilly Floyd, all of Cumberland Furnace, Tenn.; two sisters, Deborah "Debbie" Shrewsbury and her companion William Fox of Danese, W.Va.; and Victoria “Vicky” Foley of Glade Springs, W.Va.; and nephews, Brian Lilly, Brad Lilly, and Daniel Luke Foley.
Funeral services will be conducted to celebrate the life of Jeffrey Gilbreath at 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at the chapel of McReynolds-Nave & Larson Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until the hour of service at the funeral home.
