Dickson, Ms. Sarah O. Age 87 of Vanleer, TN, passed away July 17, 2008. Preceded in death by her brother, James Nolie Dickson, and sister, Mary Alice Ussery. A native and lifelong resident of Houston County, TN, she was the daughter of the late J.N. and Mable Wyatt Dickson. She was a graduate of Yellow Creek High School and held a Bachelor of Arts degree in home economics from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and a Master of Arts degree in education from the George Peabody College. She was a school teacher at Yellow Creek High School (1940-42) and Houston County High School for many years, before retiring in the early 1980s. She was an active member of Erin United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, the Houston County Historical Society and served on the Houston County Library Board. She is survived and will be missed by all who loved her, including her niece, Jane Ussery Newman of Brentwood, TN, her great nieces, Ann H. Miles, Tracy N. Hearn and Alice B. Walker, and her great nephews, John Bradley Miles, Phillip R. Newman, Carl Clark and David N. Clark. The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 20, 2008, from 5-7 p.m. at Nave Erin Chapel, 4639 West Main Street, Erin, TN 37061 and from 10-11 a.m. on Monday, July 21, 2008, at Erin United Methodist Church, with funeral services to follow at 11 a.m., Rev. Ken Wallace officiating and Rev. Harriet J. Bryan assisting, with interment at Dickson Union Cemetery. Gary Hearn, William Dell Walker and her great nephews will serve as Pallbearers, along with her great, great nephews, Nathan Miles and Andrew Miles. Her longtime friends and neighbors, James L. Stanfill, Mike Stanfill, Keith Stanfill, Kevin Stanfill, Adam Stanfill, Ethan Stanfill, Andrew Stanfill and Charles Manning will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.
