Sammy entered this life on October 5, 1954 in Montgomery County, TN to the late Cecil Paul Groves and Lucy Bell Hollis Groves. A proud graduate of Montgomery Central High School, Class of 1972, Sammy carried the lessons of his education into his daily life and work. He was well-known for his talent in working on cars, a skill he eagerly passed down to his children. His hands were always busy, whether he was fixing engines or tending to his yard, which he always kept neat. He dedicated over 42 years of his life to Trane Company, where he earned a reputation for hard work and reliability. Sammy's love for the outdoors took him to the lake, where he enjoyed the fresh air and the company of family. He valued these moments spent with loved ones, especially his grandchildren, who filled his heart with joy. He also had a special bond with his dog, Grizzly, who was always by his side.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his siblings, Lois Green, Nancy Hembree, and Paul Groves, Jr., and his father-in-law, Hobert Heflin.

Survivors include his loving wife of 50 years, Shirley Groves. They were eager to be celebrating 51 years of marriage on March 29, 2025. He also leaves behind his children, Jason Groves, Stacy Fowler (Carl), and Lynn Groves; God son, “Flash” Ronald Broome; siblings, Isabell Wall, Sarah McWhorter (Wayne), and Helen Ford (Steve); grandchildren, Jason Tyler Groves, Dalton Stokes, JayAnna Stokes, Dylan Paul Groves, Chelsea Woods, and Jayden Fowler; great-grandchildren, Zayden, Brantley, and Aubery; nephew, Paulie Groves (Pam); mother-in-law, Lorene Heflin; and many other nieces, nephews, and family members.
