Sammie Earlene Douglas was born in 1943 in Memphis, Tennessee and was a graduate of Treadwell High School and Memphis State University. She taught for a total of 43 years including 20 years in the Houston County School System. Her career included positions in eight different states where she was twice selected as “Teacher of the Year” and overseas for the Department of Defense. She was married for 49 years to her husband, Kenneth W. Douglas, now a retired military officer. Although she had no children of her own, she considered her students like her own and devoted her life to them. Sammie was 71 when she passed. A celebration of her life will be 2pm Wednesday at Nave Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Paul Moody officiating. Visitation will be from 2pm until 8pm Tuesday and from 8am until time of service Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Arlington Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Brian Cleghern, Kerry Powell, Terry Douglas, George Clark, Mark Beal, and Tommy Mitchell.
