Ruth Vernell Sykes, age 84, of Palmyra, passed away on Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at Signature Health Care of Erin.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 5, 2017 at the chapel of McReynolds-Nave & Larson Funeral Home with the Revs. E.C. McKinley, Terry Bear, and Richard Neal officiating. Burial will follow in the Baggett's Chapel Cemetery. The Sykes family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and 10 a.m. until the hour of service Friday.
Ruth entered into this life on January 7, 1933 in Montgomery County to the late Douglas Hodges and Eula Mackens Hodges. She was a loving and caring homemaker and a member of the church family at Baggett's Chapel Church of God of Prophecy.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Anderson "Andy" Sykes. Left behind to cherish her memory are her sons, David Sykes and Doyle Sykes; brothers, James Hodges, J.D. Hodges, Eugene Hodges, Randall Hodges, Gwen Hodges, and Larry Hodges; and sisters, Clara Ellis and Betty Peters. She was the loving grandmother of five grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
