Russell W. Herndon, 86, born April 1, 1925 to Fred and Floy Herndon in Dover, TN, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 10th at Gateway Medical Center. A celebration of life will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, May 12, 2011 at McReynolds-Nave & Larson Chapel with Rev. Paul Nolan and Rev. Betty Coghill officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery with honors provided by Clarksville Police Department. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. until the hour of service Thursday at the funeral home. He is survived by wife of 67 years, Margaret Atkins Herndon; two sons, Maurice F. (MaryLee) Herndon of Richmond, VA, Bill R. (Jan) Herndon of Clarksville, TN; granddaughters, Kim Hart, Kelly Phipps, Amy Spence, and Ann Herndon; great-grandchildren Billy Davidson, Cody Davidson, Clayton Spence, Carter Phipps, Jackson Phipps, Nathan Phipps, and Savannah Phipps; great-great-grandchild Kaydence Davidson; siblings, Mary Jo Horner, Robert Herndon, and Ruby Nell Dodgen. He was preceded in death by siblings, Young Herndon, Martha Mobley, Fred Herndon, Jr., Cozye Lee Knott, and Loyd Herndon. LT Herndon retired after 34 years as a police officer for Clarksville Police Department, was a U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII and was a member of the Clarksville Church of God.
