Rita Akin

Rita Underwood Akin, age 62, passed away on Friday, June 28, 2024 at Tennova Healthcare.

Celebration of Life will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 3, 2024 at McReynolds-Nave & Larson Funeral Home with Rev. Tim Ferrell officiating.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 12 noon until the hour of service at the funeral home.

Rita entered this life on November 21, 1961 in Clarksville, TN to the late James Leroy “Red” Underwood and Ruby Morris Underwood. She was a talented nurse for over 30 years, who genuinely loved and cared for her patients. Rita was a member of Memorial Baptist Church. In her spare time, she enjoyed shopping trips with Judy, going on cruises and traveling to the beach. She was a devoted “Nana” to her granddaughter. 

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Jerrold Akin, and nephew, Jody Lee Majors.

Survivors include her granddaughter, Nevaeh Cook; siblings, Lawrence (Debbie) Underwood, Nancy Dickson, and Maria Underwood; daughter, Jennifer Cook. Rita also leaves behind her best friend who she looked at as a sister, Judy Morrison, along with several friends and co-workers who will miss her dearly.
