Preceded by his wife of 40 years Joyce Bumpus, parents Melvin and Geniva Phillips Bumpus and brother Billy Bumpus. He is survived by his children, Terry Bumpus, Rita Smith, Sheila Smith, Timmy Bumpus and daughter by marriage, Michelle Sims; siblings, Glyne Bumpus, Jimmy Bumpus, and Judy Myers; seventeen grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren. Richard was a God loving, hardworking, family man. He was a loving husband, a provider, a wonderful dad and the best granddaddy! He was a member of Community Church of God, where he enjoyed fellowship, and where he spent time serving and loving the Lord. Richard was employed through Fort Campbell where he served 36 years, two of those serving in the Navy. He retired in 2003. Outside of his career, he was a man of many talents. If you needed a car fixed, a household repair, anything built or remodeled he could do it. He was savvy on a computer and had a love for technology. He spent a lot of time behind the camera capturing so many memories. What made him so special is not just his talents but his will to teach anyone who wanted to learn. We will always remember his loving, caring and giving soul.
Pallbearers will be Zach Bumpus, Adrian Smith, Eric Smith, Malik Bowen, Jessie Griffin, Lee Daniels, Michael Bumpus and Richard Bumpus.
