Richard Bates

Richard Lee Bates, 66, Clarksville, died Wednesday, July 29, 2009, at his residence. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Dotsonville Baptist Church with Rev. Herbert McFadden and Rev. Jim Bates officiating. Burial will be in Dotsonville Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Sunday at McReynolds-Nave & Larson Chapel and from 9 a.m. until the hour of service Monday at the church. He was born February 5, 1943 in Hamburg, Ark, and was the son of the late, Ardell Aubry and Iva Mae Hill Bates. Mr. Bates was retired from the U.S. Army and Civil Service. He was a Deacon of Dotsonville Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Rebecca N. Bates, Clarksville; sons, David Ardell Bates, Castalian Springs, TN, SSG Richard Lee Bates II, Fort Carson, CO; grandchildren, Louisa, Stacey, Elizabeth, Caitlyn, Brandan, Brook, Abigail, Hailey, Hannah, Lil Ricky, Nicholas Olyn; great-granddaughter, Gabriella. Pallbearers will be David Bates, Richard Bates, Michael Martian, Doug Miller and Jonathan Miller. Memorials may be made to Dotsonville Baptist Church Cemetery, 1870 Dunbar Road, Woodlawn, TN 37191.
