Rev. Robert Mitchell

Rev. Robert S. “Bob” Mitchell, Sr., age 83, of Erin, TN, passed away on his wedding anniversary December 19, 2016 at his home.
Bob was born on March 29, 1933 in Sumter, SC the seventh of twelve children of the late Talmadge W. Mitchell and Felicia Heckel Mitchell.
Bob was called to the ministry at the age of 16 and he honored that call for the remaining 67 years of his life.
Bob and Emmaline moved to Erin on August 14, 1961 to pastor the Nazarene churches in Houston County. He eventually became the pastor of The Erin Church of the Nazarene and he served that congregation until his retirement in 1999. He served other congregations until his health forced him to fully retire at age 80. Along with his duties as a pastor, he worked for the Houston County Board of Education for 20 years in numerous capacities. Bob’s accomplishments are too numerous to mention, but his life was centered around his love for God, his love for his family and his love for the church and community in which he served. He often referred to Erin as the “Center of the Universe”.
In addition to his parents Bob was preceded in death by his loving wife Emmaline C. Mitchell; brothers, John, Richard, T. W. and Billy; sisters, Annette Mitchell, Meddie Barwick and Jean Baker; and great grandchildren Cole and Devin. Survivors include his brothers Skipper and Daniel Mitchell and sisters Virginia Copeland and Jeanette Hoskins; his children Robbie (Mary Ann), Donnie (Cynthia), Ronnie (Mitzi), Tommy (Teresa), Nethla and Melinda Mitchell, 17 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be at The Erin Church of the Nazarene on Thursday Dec. 22nd from 4:00 – 8:00 pm and Friday Dec. 23rd from 8:00 am until 1:45 pm. The service of the celebration of Bob’s physical life and his eternal life will be held at The Erin Church of the Nazarene at 2:00 pm. Bob will be interred at Mitchell Memorial Garden. The family is requesting that gifts be made to The Erin Church of the Nazarene Building Fund in lieu of flowers.
