Reed Bowers

Reed Wilson Bowers, Jr., age 83 of Clarksville, passed away Sunday, January 20, 2013 at his residence.
A celebration of his life will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at McReynolds-Nave & Larson Chapel, with Rev. Doyle Russell officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, and from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Bowers was born September 9, 1929 in Montgomery County, TN and was baptized on Easter Sunday in 1980. He was preceded in death by his parents, Reed Wilson and Betty Elizabeth Bowers; childhood sweetheart and wife of 59 years, Martha Louise Bowers; and his daughter, Connie Killebrew.
He worked most of his life as a Riverboat Captain and retired with his own business, Jr's Green House. His hobbies were making wine, playing cards and growing flowers.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Jerry Bowers and wife Ann, Clarksville, Kathy Staffen, Ashland City; sister, Effie Orler, Missouri; grandchildren, Randy Bowers, Beth Bowers, Steven White, Melissa Nix, Stephanie Killebrew; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great- grandchild.
Pallbearers will be Glen Montgomery, Larry Morris, Rick Peterson, Jerry Biggs, Dr. Michael West, Keith Haynes, Buford Thaxton and Larry Haynes.
Memorials may be made to Gateway Hospice, 141 Hatcher Lane, Clarksville, TN 37040.
