Ray C. Barnett, 81, Clarksville, former life long resident of Woodlawn, went to be with the Lord, Tuesday, September 15, 2009, at Vanderbilt Medical Center, Nashville. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church with Dr. Roger Freeman officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. Thursday at McReynolds-Nave & Larson Chapel and from 12 noon until the hour of service Friday at First Baptist Church. He was born January 30, 1928 in Montgomery County and was the son of the late O.T. and Mabel Covington Barnett. Mr. Barnett was a farmer and co-owner of Kentucky Tennessee Livestock Market. He was a member and deacon of First Baptist Church. He loved spending time with family and looked forward to their summer trip to the beach each year. He was a man of few words who was known for kindness. He and Betty were married for 59 years and counted his children and grandchildren among his many blessings. Survivors include his wife, Betty Sleigh Barnett; sons, Mark (Betty) Barnett, Chris (Laura) Barnett; daughter, Connie (Paul) Cooper, all of Clarksville; grandchildren, Tom Barnett, Taylor Cooper, Will Barnett, Matt Barnett, Claire Barnett, Graham Barnett and Miller Barnett. Pallbearers will be Tom Barnett, Will Barnett, Matt Barnett, Graham Barnett, Miller Barnett, Johnny Sleigh, Brad Crow, Don Atkins and Mike Atkins. Honorary pallbearers will be deacons of First Baptist Church. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 435 Madison Street, Clarksville, TN 37040.
