Rachel L. Phillips, 79, Nashville, TN, died Friday, October 10, 2008, at Gateway Medical Center. A private service will be held with Rev. Jeff Wallace officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 pm to 7 pm Sunday at the funeral home at the funeral home.

Rachel Phillips, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend went to her eternal home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, Oct. 10, 2008. Rachel was born in Stewart Co., TN on November 26, 1928 to Herman Elbert Lehman, Sr. and Hazel Hugh Vaughn. She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Mildred Colbert, Dorothy Chapman, and Polly Peacher; brothers Herman Elbert Lehman, Jr., Earl Lehman, Dorris Lehman , Joe Lehman and infant James Lehman. Survivers include three children Yvonne Kelly(John) of Nashville, TN, David Phillips(Merry) of Dover, TN and Lisa Mathis(John) of Brentwood, TN, eight grandchildren , Caroline Elizabeth Rigsby, Jeffrey David Allyn, Ronald Lee Allyn, Jared Cole Phillips, Ellie Marie Phillips, Eric Christopher Phillips, Gavin Kurtis Phillips, and Sonja Renee Chapman, one great-grandchild Christopher Allen Phillips. She is also survived by brothers, Curdine Lehman, and Donald Lehman; sisters Jewell Naive, and Maxine Goodwin. Her many beloved nieces and nephews will serve as honorary pallbearers. Rachel was known for her dazzling smile and her compassion for all , from mere acquaintances to life long friends and family. She was a member of Brentwood United Methodist Church. She had an unwavering faith in Christ and a belief that life on this earth is but a prelude to the joys of eternity. Her life on this earth was devoted to her children and grandchildren. "Blessed is the child who's heart is sheltered by a mother's love and whose spirit is strengthened by a mother's faith." She will be dearly missed, but never forgotten. The family wishes to thank all of the wonderful caregivers and PALS at Belmont Village Assisted Living who loved and cared for Rachel in the last three years of her life.
