Portia Marie Hodges, age 73, went to be with her Lord while surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, July 13, 2017 at her home in Cumberland Furnace.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 16, 2017 at First Baptist Church, Clarksville, with the Revs. Bill Graham, Larry Riley, and Roger Freeman officiating. Portia will be laid to rest in the Potts Cemetery.
The Hodges family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday at McReynolds-Nave & Larson Funeral Home and from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church.
Portia entered into this life on December 31, 1943 in Dickson County to Charlie T. and Mary Potts. Early in life, Portia attended the University of Tennessee-Knoxville and went on to work for the Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Following her tenure there, Portia worked alongside her husband at the Gary J. Hodges Law Firm for over 40 years where she served as his Legal Assistant. Portia had a passion for Missions and traveled with a servant's heart to such places as China, Guatemala, and Brazil. Additionally, she was a member of the church family at First Baptist Church and served on various boards and committees as well as serving as a board member for Elisha's Chamber Ministries. Portia was a loving wife and mother, and counted her greatest joy being "Gran" to her four grandchildren.
Survivors include her loving husband of 56 years, Gary J. Hodges; daughter, Rachel H. Wall and her husband David; grandchildren, Katelyn, Jack, Charlie, and Jane Cavitt; and siblings, Loyde Potts, David Potts, and Martha Waynick.
Nephews serving as pallbearers will be Larry Waynick, Steve Waynick, Paul Potts, Mark Beard, Michael Baggett, Rob Kennedy, Chris Kennedy, Donnie Plaster, David Greer, and Jason Potts.
