Penny Jernigan

Penny Joyce Smith Jernigan, age 74, of Erin, TN, passed away Saturday, July 8, 2023, at AHC Clarksville in Clarksville, TN.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 12, 2023 at the Chapel of Nave Funeral Home with Bro. Tay Joslin officiating. Burial will follow at Knight Cemetery.

The Jernigan family will receive friends on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., and again from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of service on Wednesday morning.

Penny entered this life on September 20, 1948, in Benton County, Tennessee, to Glindell and Maggie Fluger Smith.   Penny was a member of the Erin Church of Christ where she loved her church family, and participating in church activities.  On pretty days, you would find Penny on the bank at Birdsong Lake fishing.  She enjoyed sewing and going to sewing classes; she also enjoyed going on “girl trips” to Grand Rivers with her nieces.  The brightest spot in her life was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; she will be greatly missed.

In addition to her parents, Penny was preceded in death by her grandsons, Calvin Jernigan, Curtis Carter; her siblings, Harold Smith, Anna Morris, and Peggy Rogers.

Penny leaves behind her devoted husband of 55 years, Malcolm Jernigan; her daughter, Patricia Jernigan Carter; her son, Eric (Amy) Jernigan; and bonus kids, Chad and Tammy Smith.  She also leaves behind her precious grandchildren, Tiffany (Josh Forrest) Carter, Colton (Lindsay) Jernigan, Charlie Jernigan, and bonus granddaughter, Bailey (Duncan) Smith; great-grandchildren, Brenna Hawks, Carter Hawks, Braxton Hawks, Bella Forrest; along with a host of nieces and nephews.

Serving as pallbearers will be Colton Jernigan, Charlie Jernigan, Chris Rogers, Jerry Carter, Chad Smith, and Josh Forrest.  Honorary pallbearers will be Greg Morris and Ferlin Rogers.
