Patsy Brooks, age 76, passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness on April 10, 2016 in
Erin, Tennessee. Born in Cumberland City, Tennessee on April 30, 1940 to the late J.B.
Walden and Mavis Lyle Walden, Patsy graduated from W.T. Thomas High School in
Cumberland City. She married Erin native Archie Brooks in September 1961 and quickly
became a prominent and active member of Erin’s civic, professional and church
community. Patsy was well known and admired for her abiding energy, generosity of spirit, ongoing
community outreach efforts and large circle of friends. She continually worked, often
anonymously, to ensure people in the community who needed food, clothing or moral
support received those necessities. She was always willing to lend a helping hand or
understanding ear, and many who knew her considered her a role model and mentor. !
With her husband Archie, she helped build and operate several local businesses including
the A&W Restaurant from 1970-1976; West End Kwik Stop from 1976-2006; and
Archie's TV & Appliances which has been in operation since 1978.
In 2004, Patsy was recognized with the city’s Emerald Award for her many years of
community service. She was named Lord High Mayor in 2008 at Erin’s annual Irish Day
Celebration, the highest title of recognition for a local business person and community
activist. Patsy was a four time cancer survivor who battled the disease with dignity and
determination. In 2010, she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease which eventually
became debilitating.In addition to her husband Archie, Patsy is survived by daughter Tamera and countless
family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to the Bethesda Mission,
Erin, TN; the American Cancer Society; or the Alzheimer's Treatment and Research
Center. Visitation will be held Monday, April 11 from 4p - 8p at Nave Funeral Home in Erin and
on Tuesday, April 12 at Erin Methodist Church from 12 pm until service time at 2 pm
Pallbearers will be Les Riley, Kevin Spurgeon, Reggie Spurgeon, Keith Breeden, John Brooks, and Robert Kizer.Honorary pallbearers will be Melanie Tefft, Kathleen Sigmund, Lisa Smith, Dickie Marable, Dara Carson, Kari Carson Wilson, and Dottie Self.
