Pastor John D. Black, age 64, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, October 20, 2013 while at his home in Cunningham.
A home going celebration will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, October 25, 2013 at Hopewell Baptist Church with Bros. Michael Raines, Kurt Neeley, and Roy Hendrickson officiating. Burial will follow in the Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery.
The Black family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and 1 p.m. until the hour of service Friday. All visitation will be at Hopewell Baptist Church.
Pastor Black entered this life on February 26, 1949 in Springfield, Missouri to the late Thomas and Elizabeth Garretson Black. He was a graduate of Missionary Baptist Seminary in Little Rock, Arkansas and was the current Pastor of Hopewell Baptist Church, where he had just recently given fifteen years of church leadership. John was a loving husband and father to his family and a dedicated man to his church and community. His civic service was exemplified by his tenure as Chairman of the Cunningham Volunteer Fire Department, a cause he held in high regard. Above all though, John was a dedicated servant to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
He is survived by his loving family which includes his wife, Jonna McCollough Black of Cunningham; daughters, Karen Lyle and husband Greg of Clarksville, Rachel Raines and husband Michael of Timpson, TX, Laura Black of Cordova, TN and her fiance Kurt Neeley of Jonesboro, AR, and Julia Black of Cunningham; and siblings, William Black of Switzerland and Anna Hendrickson of England. He was the proud grandfather of Jesse, Sadie, Luke, and Sara-Kate Raines.
Pallbearers will be Bill Baggett, Roger Baggett, Curtis Rodenhaber, Scott Smith, Bruce Trotter, Tim Ashby, Bobby Richardson, and David Schneck.
In lieu of flowers the Black family wishes for memorials to be sent to the Missionary Baptist Seminary, 5224 Stagecoach Rd., Little Rock, AR 72204.
