Owen entered into this life on July 27, 1944, in Montgomery County, TN, to the late AJ and Pearl Chambers. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by brothers, Leon and Austin Chambers. At the young age of 13, Owen was saved and began a life of faithful service to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was a member of Marion United Methodist Church and had previously served as an Ordained Elder at the Shiloh Cumberland Presbyterian Church for over 35 years along with teaching adult Sunday School for over 30 years. A talented pianist and organist, Owen often expressed and shared his love for the Lord by playing at area churches over the years, playing at most every church in Montgomery County south of the river.
Owen cherished his family. Married to the love of his life for 51 years, Owen and Nancy raised two boys. He loved evenings on the front porch where everyone reported to him the daily events on the second-generation Chambers family farm as well as what was going on in their lives. He cherished his nightly devotional time with Nancy where they would read scripture and lift each family and extended family member up by name in prayer. Also, Owen relished family dinners where daily happenings and life lessons were shared as the delicious homemade dishes were passed around the table. His life provided the best example to his children, but he also inspired them by unforgettable stories from his childhood, as well as others he picked up along the way.
Owen was also a dedicated educator and servant of his community, teaching Business and Accounting classes at Montgomery Central High School for over 33 years. Many of those years in the school system he kept score for MCHS basketball team. Additionally, Owen was proud of his farming heritage and regularly supported 4-H and Soil Conservation programs. He shared memberships with the Clarksville-Montgomery Co. Retired Teachers, Tenn. Education Assoc. of Retired Teachers, NEA Retired Teachers.
He always had a dog and cows and was the go-to historian for the Shiloh Community. But Owen's true passion was sharing his testimony and the love of Jesus. Even in his last days, he never missed a chance to pray with and boldly share the Gospel with his doctors and nurses.
Survivors include his loving wife, Nancy Burney Chambers; sons, Phillip Chambers, Brandon (Kendyl) Chambers; and his grandchildren, all of whom he adored - Caroline, Abigail, Mary Morgan, Addison, Brooke, and Knox.
Pallbearers will be Knox Chambers, Tony Bowling, Wyatt Bowling, Brett Burchwell, Earl Bagwell, Mike Ingham, Robert Hodges, Kyle Jones, and Freddie Garrett. Honorary Pallbearers will be Danny Fewless and Warren Greene.
