Ola Mae Clark
Ola Mae Clark, 86, Clarksville, passed away Sunday, November 4, 2012 after a brief illness.
A funeral mass will be held 11 a.m., Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West, Hopkinsville.
Visitation will be from 3-5 p.m. Sunday, November 11, 2012 at McReynolds-Nave & Larson Chapel.
She was the youngest of six children born to Annie and Frank Wiggleton, who shortly after her birth returned from Denver to their roots in Port Royal, and Clarksville, TN. They weathered the depression by farming, including on the Merriweather Farm.
In the early days of WWII, at the age of 16, she married John Clark who was serving his country as a soldier. She was one of the homefront heroes, as a "Rosie the Riveter," working on the landing gear of the B-29 Superfortress aircraft, as well as assembling radios for other combat aircraft. After the war, her husband joined the newly-established Air Force, and, as a family, they traveled the world. One of their favorite places to live was in Aldeburgh, England.
After her husband's retirement from the Air Force, she became a local businesswoman. Some may remember her as the helpful owner of the Book Rack when it was located in the Franklin Arcade on Franklin Street in Clarksville, where many of her customers became good friends.
She loved birds, and many families of cardinals and hummingbirds owe their existence to her tender care over the years. She was an active member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. She and her husband continued to live together in their home until her death.
She is survived by her husband of 70 years, John; daughter, Carolyn; son-in-law, Todd; sister, Mary; several nieces and nephews; and many good friends. She lived a rich, full life, and will be sorely missed.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
