Norma Jean Darke, 83, Clarksville, passed away Thursday, December 29, 2011 at Clarksville Nursing & Rehab.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at the chapel of McReynolds-Nave & Larson Funeral Home with Dr. Felts Dent officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the hour of service Tuesday at the funeral home.
Jean was born May 19, 1928 in her family home in Greenwood Cemetery. She was the daughter of Sam and Mattie Williams Batie. She was the bookkeeper and co-owner of Batie Mazda in Clarksville and was a member of First Baptist Church where she served on many church committees. Also she was a member of the Board of Directors of the Clarksville-Montgomery County Ajax-Turner Senior Center. She was awarded the Montgomery County Senior Citizen Award for 2008 and the Richard A. Fowlkes Excellence in Aging Award in 2008 for her contributions to the advancement in aging services to the greater mid-state area.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Darke, brothers, Joe and Howard Batie, and sisters, Louise Hill and Linda Montgomery. Survivors include her sons, Jim Watts and his wife Pam of Clarksville and John Watts and his wife Jennifer Sakry of Rice, Minnesota, step-daughters Ann Peach and Laura Darke, step-son Hank Darke and his wife Marilyn, sister Dorothy Johnson, and eleven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
