Passing
On November 26, 2022, Nicoya Alexandria Rolle, age 41, of Clarksville, Tennessee transitioned to her heavenly home after a short intense battle with cancer.
"I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believes in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live,” (John 11:25-26). In these powerful words, Jesus speaks of a coming day when death will be defeated. With this promise we know that the first death is only temporary; and that when He returns, our bodies will rise from the grave into eternal life. While the family is deeply saddened at the loss of our dearly beloved Coya; we are comforted that Christ’s resurrection is proof of her future resurrection.

Life in Upland
For a brief period, Nicoya worked in the food service department at Taylor University. However, her greatest passion was singing in the gospel choir and fostering deep relationships with the students and staff. Nicoya's empathetic and nurturing spirit made her a source of comfort for many. She and Jasman's home became a home away from home for Bahamian and non-Bahamian students to find love and support, as well as sample Bahamian culture and food. Nicoya raised and cared for many students as if they were her own, and she was always willing to make the long 2 hour airport runs for students. Nicoya's home was always a safe haven where you could count on receiving love, joy, food, and acceptance. Always willing to lend a sympathetic ear, friendly advice, or days' worth of jokes! Nicoya's joy and optimism rubbed off on you, and you couldn't help but fall in love with her.

She spoke often about her Vacation Bible school at Christ the King Anglican Church, and Weekend gatherings at the home of her “younger aunties” Rose, Iva, and Dorothy. She also loved dressing up, matching with color coordinated outfits, singing and recording popular radio songs. Nicoya mostly led and her “Sistah Cousins” were her Doowop girls.
Nicoya's most favorite people were her family. She was proud to be Jasman's wife and was committed to assisting him achieve all that God had in store for him. Her daughters were her pride and joy. She was elated to see Najee blossom into a beautiful young lady and achieve independence through securing her first job, learning to drive, and preparing to attend college. Nicoya cherished seeing Ariana grow, especially in her love of music, girl scouts, and emulate her mother’s compassion for others. Nicoya and her sister-in-law, Chesternique, shared more than just being wives of men who loved music, they were both blessed with phenomenal voices. This love and talent for music and singing has fed their bond as well as the bond of the family.

Light amidst cancer
Nicoya was a true embodiment of 2 Corinthians 4:9 which declares, we are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed. Diagnosed with cancer in September of 2021, Nicoya didn’t sink into despair. Confident that the Monarch of the universe was on her side, she resigned to embodying an unrelenting spirit of endurance and immediately started a Facebook group to chronicle her journey and reach out to, and encourage others walking through life’s challenges. Through all the trials that her disease caused Nicoya, she never complained, never questioned, and never let the devil steal her joy. Not even cancer could dim her infectious personality. Nicoya continued to encourage family, and friends, and was a true light to those she met during her treatments.
Always remembered
Nicoya's legacy of a faithful servant of God, devoted wife and mother lives on. Nicoya's impact on the lives of the people she met, developed relationships with, and ministered to speak of joy, positivity, and kindness. It will be these things we remember of dear wife, mother, sister, and friend. We can praise God for the healing Nicoya received, while we mourn her loss until our heavenly meeting.
