Nelda Hargis Steeley, age 66, passed away on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at Grace Healthcare of Clarksville.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 29, 2017 at the chapel of McReynolds-Nave & Larson Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry King officiating. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until the hour of service at the funeral home.
Nelda was born September 23, 1950, daughter of the late William Graham (Penny) Hargis and Eloise Norden Hargis. She retired from the Montgomery County School System after 35 years of teaching elementary students. She held two degrees from Austin Peay State University and two other education endorsements from APSU and Trevecca Nazarene College. She served on many committees for education locally and at the state level. She held lifetime memberships in Sigma Alpha Iota, National Education Association, and the Tennessee Retired Teacher's Association. She grew up as an active member of First Baptist Church of Clarksville.
Survivors include a sister, Joyce Neblett and brother, Charles R. Hargis, both of Clarksville, and family of choice Rick Steeley of Nashville. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Wendell Dean Hargis (Dalton, GA) and Mervin Owen Hargis (Clarksville).
