Nancy Buckner Poole, age 79, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 15, 2024. She was born on May 23, 1944, in Montgomery County, Tennessee.
Momma’s faith in Christ was the very foundation of her being. Because of her faith, she spent much time interceding for her family and friends in prayer. Her love of God’s Word flowed through her writings and out of her own life experiences came encouragement and empathy for others. Christ was her Rock.
Momma learned to play the piano as a young girl, and she carried the love of the hymns with her throughout her life. She grew up attending Bethel United Methodist Church and later became a member of Pardue Memorial Freewill Baptist Church.
Momma had a fierce love of family. It started with how she honored her parents and the love she had for each of her five siblings. As families grew, Momma’s love extended to her nieces and nephews. As her own family grew, each child, grandchild and great-grandchild knew that they were special to her. Out of her great love for her husband, she cared for him through the end of his days.
Momma had a love of country. For 30 years she worked in Civil Service at Ft. Campbell Army Base with the majority of her time spent as the Executive Secretary to the Commander of Blanchfield Army Community Hospital. She had an immense respect for the Armed Services.
Throughout her life, Momma had a natural talent for writing poetry. Her writings were a way to honor marriages, lives well lived, hope in Eternity, and praise to her Father in Heaven. Many were gifted with her poems, each one crafted with the recipient in mind.
Momma also possessed a green thumb and found great pleasure in tending her plants. She could make just about anything grow!
In addition to her parents, Eldon Buckner, Sr. and Ruth Bumpus Buckner, Nancy is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph T. Poole, Sr. and her son by marriage, Joe Poole Jr.
Nancy is survived by her children Susan McGinnis (Ben), Cindy Jackson (Shane), Shannon Slusser (Eddie, Jr.), David Poole (Princess); children by marriage Peggy deBessonet (Michael), Sherry Poole, Sharon Bray (Audie), and Kimberly Turner (Jamie). Nancy was blessed with a loving array of grandchildren: Brian Patterson (Brittney), Jennifer Taylor (Jacob), Eliana Adams (Micah), Andrew Slusser (Hannah), Rachel Hope Slusser, Lydia McGinnis, Joel Slusser, and Miriam McGinnis; great-grandchildren: Hunter, Brantley, Hayes Reese, Kendall, Annabelle, Karina, and Asher. Each will carry her legacy of love. Nancy is also survived by her sister-in-law, Anne Buckner, as well as several nieces and nephews for whom she had great love.
