MSG (Ret) James Edward Ivy, age 68, of Clarksville, passed away Thursday, January 24, 2013 at St. Thomas Hospital, Nashville.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, January 28, 2013 at the chapel of McReynolds-Nave & Larson Funeral Home with Craig Gallavin and Wesley Woodard officiating. Burial will follow in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West. Full military honors will be rendered.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. until the hour of service Monday at the funeral home.
James was born July 12, 1944 in Franklin, Tennessee, son of Joe Henry and Annie Ruby Harvell Ivy. James enlisted with the U.S. Army in 1963 and dutifully served his country in Vietnam. Upon retiring from his distinguished 23-year military career in 1986 with the rank of Master Sergeant, James was self-employed in the communications industry. He was a member of the VFW, the Vietnam Veterans of America, and the Church of Christ.
Survivors include his loving wife of over 44 years, Barbara Whitby Ivy of Clarksville, his children, Vicky Ladd of Murfreesboro, Michael Ivy of Clarksville, and Robin Upchurch of Clarksville, and sisters, Stella Seaborn of Hermitage and Bessie Jo Turley of Chapel Hill. He was the proud grandfather of Corrie Ivy, Amber Rogers, Joseph Ivy, Heather Ivy Cross, Halie Upchurch, and Hunter Upchurch, and great grandfather to Destiny and Tristen. He was also survived by honored family member, David Taylor.
In addition to his mother and father James was preceded in death by his brothers, William and Harry Ivy, sister, Carolyn Keith, and his grandchild, Alexandria Renae Upchurch.
Pallbearers will be Michael Ivy, Joey Ivy, David Taylor, Jeff Ivy, Greg Owens, Carnell Parker, and James Upchurch.
