Morley Robert Bates, 79, Clarksville, died Tuesday, April 28, 2009, at his residence. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at McReynolds-Nave-Larson Chapel with Rev. Charles Martin officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens with full military honors. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday and from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of service Friday at the funeral home. McReynolds-Nave & Larson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. He was born December 23, 1929 in Onterio Canada and was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Agnes Rogers Bates; and his wife, Bertha Ann Smith Bates. Mr. Bates was retired from the U.S. Army as a Sgt. Major. He served in Viet Nam and the Korean War. Survivors include his children, Larry Bates, Vivian Bates, Thomas Bates, Barbara Bates, Richard "Rick" Bates, Butch Bates and Ruth Ann Willoughby; sister, Joan Zalany; several grandchilren and great-grandchildren.
