Mary Emma Windham, 88, Clarksville, died Sunday, December 5, 2010, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Nashville. A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Hilldale Church of Christ with Bro. Roy Goodmiller and Drew Gaylor officiating. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday at McReynolds-Nave & Larson Chapel and from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of service Saturday at the church. McReynolds-Nave & Larson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. She was born November 9, 1922 in Cheatham County and was preceded in death by her parents, James Edgar and Lizzie Mae Glasgow Gibbs; husband, Robert Stephen Windham; brothers, Clive Gibbs, Woodrow Gibbs, James E. Gibbs Jr., Fred E. Gibbs, Edward M. Gibbs; sisters, Rachel Crawford, Frances Phillips, Grace Adkisson. Mrs. Windham was a retired Registered Nurse, past president (1979 - 1981) of Tennessee Nurses Association, and was instrumental in the organization of the associate degree program at Austin Peay in 1969. She was formerly named outstanding Business Woman of the Year by the Business and Professional Womens Club. Mrs. Windham initiated the action for the establishment of the Montgomery County Council for the protection of Children focusing on the abused and neglected child. She was a member of Hilldale Church of Christ. Survivors include her son, Stephen Clive Windham, Clarksville; daughters, Evelyn (Jim) Gaylor, Newnan, GA, Emily J. Windham, Nashville; sister, Sally Wherry, Nashville; grandchildren, Drew Gaylor, Courtney Gaylor, Britt Gaylor; great-grandchildren, children of Drew Gaylor, Tyler and Loralai.
