Mama loved life. A military wife for 27 years, she kept her boots on and her bag packed. After retiring from the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System, she and Dad enjoyed traveling with their fellow retirees and camping companions. Mama was a great hostess, enjoyed cooking, serving her family, friends and anyone else who walked through the front door and was a second mother to many. She was a member of First Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Louis J. Hoekstra. They were married in her hometown of Dickson, TN on January 1, 1950, while Dad was a soldier stationed at Fort Campbell, Ky. She leaves her family with many happy loving memories. She is survived by 4 children, John (Ruth) Hoekstra, Lu Ellen (Mont) Davie, Susan Hoekstra, Lee Anne (Mike) Gullett, all of Clarksville. Six grandchildren, Tim (Brooke) Kidwell, John (Lacey) Gullett, Carrie Denney, John (Heather) Glenn-Hoekstra, and William Hoekstra. Mama was so proud of her six great grandchildren, Skip, Sam, Addison, Bailey, Jack and Ethan. We thank her caregivers, Car & Ruthie, who cared for her tenderly and befriended her for the last several years. This summer she thoroughly enjoyed the company of her nephew and nieces, Nick Taylor, Donna Taylor and Alice Taylor while researching the Taylor family history. It was a very sweet time for her. Mama would like us to add that her four legged friends will also miss her!
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church at 435 Madison Street, Clarksville, TN 37040, or research for Alzheimer's disease.
Arrangements are in the care of McReynolds-Nave & Larson Funeral Home, (931) 647-3371. NaveFuenralHomes.com.
