Mary Ann Karrigan Janese was born on July 17, 1952, in Fort Campbell, Kentucky, and died at her home in Clarksville on December 23, 2020, after a sudden illness. She was the second of 10 children born to Jerome and Janie Burkhart Karrigan. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Richard Janese, to whom she was married on August 18, 1972; her sons, Rick and Daniel; and Edward Karrigan, her brother. Mary Ann was close to her late mother-in-law and father-in-law, Louise and Richard Janese. She took care of Mr. Janese during his final illness and died only a few days after he did.
Survivors include Dennis Karrigan, her brother, of Cadiz; sisters Bonnie Karrigan, Kathy Karrigan Clawson, and Cindy Karrigan Gray of Clarksville; Teresa Karrigan Alford of Bowling Green; and Cecilia Karrigan Hagar, Caroline Karrigan Frost, and Amy Karrigan Wright, all of Nashville. Also, she is survived by her sisters-in-law Dawnelle (Bob) Maffei of Clarksville and Daria (Teresa Johnson) Janese of San Francisco. Mary Ann doted on her nieces and nephews Austin, Jackson, and Austin Hagar; Carson and Katherine Wright; Janie Alford; Heather Gomez and Callie Karrigan; Chad Miracle and Laura Toliver; and Santino Maffei. Her great nieces and great nephews Vivien, Mateo, Zoe, Ayla, Asher, and Micah were dear to her heart.
Mary Ann received her degree in nursing from Austin Peay State University, and she worked for a number of years at Mount Zion Hospital in San Francisco. She worked as an oncology nurse and later worked extensively with AIDS patients. She was an avid reader, an excellent cook, and a talented decorator. Mary Ann and Richard were enthusiastic travelers who visited England, France, and Italy during the last years of their lives. They also visited Green Bay several times to watch the Packers play.
Father Jacob Dio will celebrate a Mass for Mary Ann on Saturday, January 2, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Visitation with the family will occur from 10:00 until the beginning of Mass. We will say the rosary at 9:30 a.m. In observance of CDC guidelines, please wear a mask and practice social distancing inside the church.
Honorary pallbearers will be her brothers-in-law Ricky Clawson, David Alford, Larry Hagar, Randy Frost, and Mitchell Wright and her nephew Santino Maffei.
