Martha Lester

July 16, 1939 — September 12, 2016

Martha Ann Beaver Lester of Clarksville, Tennessee and Spring Hill, Florida passed away on September 12, 2016 at Dogwood Bend Assisted Living in Clarksville.
Visitation will be held at McReynolds, Nave, and Larson Funeral Home and from 4-7 p.m. Friday and from 10-11 a.m. Saturday.
Services will be held in the chapel at McReynolds, Nave, and Larson Funeral Home at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 17, 2016.
Burial will follow at Sango Cemetery.
Martha was born in Washington D.C. on July 16, 1939 to Lillie H. and Floyd G. Beaver. She was married to Dr. James D. Lester for 48 years until his passing in 2006. She was also preceded in death by her son Mark A. Lester.
Martha Lester worked as a legal secretary and office manager for more than twenty years. She also served as a volunteer for many local organizations in Clarksville. She proudly served as President of the Clarksville Federation of Women’s Clubs for 15 years. She was an officer in the General Federation of Women’s Clubs of Tennessee, District VI President, President of the Women’s Book Club, and a member of the Student’s Club. She received the Tribute of Honor in 1994 from the General Federation of Women’s Clubs and was the GFWC Woman of the year in 1996.
She was a Life Master Bridge Player and a Certified Club Director of the American Contract Bridge League. Martha was an avid reader who volunteered at the Clarksville Montgomery County Public Library. She received the “Volunteer of the Year” award four times for her assistance as a docent at the Clarksville Montgomery County Museum. Martha was also a past PTA President, scout leader, volunteer at the hospital and nursing homes, and a member of Madison Street United Methodist Church.
Martha Lester is survived by one son, Dr. James D. Lester, Jr.; two grandchildren, Caleb Lester (Jessica) of McDonough, Georgia, and Sarah Morrison (Logan) of Acworth, Georgia; two great-granddaughters, Peyton Lester and Paris Lester; and close personal friend Althea Lee of Clarksville.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Customs House Museum and Cultural Center in Clarksville or the Education Department at the Clarksville Montgomery County Public Library.
Pallbearers will be Logan Morrison, Ted Young, Ray Runyon, Caleb Lester, Ed Larson, Tim Chester, and Raymond Chester.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Members of the Clarksville Women’s Clubs and Mr. Bob Turrentine.
