Jane Shelley

Martha Jane Barton Shelley (Jane) was born on October 4, 1927, in Greenfield, TN, and died on December 9, 2024, in Clarksville, TN, at age 97. She was preceded in death by her parents, Huron Wade Barton and Ella Boyd Elam Barton; her husband, Thomas Richard Shelley (Bubba); her daughter, Mary Jane Shelley Moore, and granddaughter, Brittany Jane Moore. She outlived her siblings Sue Barton Williams, Mary Elizabeth Barton Breuer, and Jack Wade Barton. She is survived by three children, Janice Ledbetter of Clarksville, Elizabeth Shelley of Nashville, and Richard Shelley of Clarksville; grandchildren, Amy Ledbetter of Towson, MD, Allen Ledbetter (Chris) of Franklin, TN, and Nathan Ledbetter (Brooke) of Franklin, TN; great grandchildren, Sarah McGinn and Kate McGinn of Towson, MD, and Emily Ledbetter and Will Ledbetter of Franklin, TN; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Jane grew up in Jackson, TN, where she graduated from Jackson High School and attended secretarial school. She married on February 19, 1948, and lived in Jackson for a couple of years, then Dickson, TN, for a year or so before moving to Clarksville where she spent the rest of her life. Jane attended the First Presbyterian Church in Clarksville for many, many years. She worked at Ledbetter Screen Process Printing Company in Clarksville for decades and performed bookkeeping and office work. Jane loved to play bridge and was preceded in death by all of her wonderful friends with whom she played and socialized at church or at other activities..

No funeral is planned. At a later date a private ceremony will take place at Greenwood Cemetery in Clarksville.
